THE MODERN LIFE SERIES
The rapid pace of change we live with on a daily basis has consequences that reach far beyond what we can predict or comprehend. Technologies that used to boggle the mind are now so commonplace that  we barely notice how they have affected us and we rarely have the time or inclination to look retrospectively back at what we have lost along the way.

As if seen through the starkly perceptive eyes of a child, the images in my Modern Life Series simplify and reveal complex adult dilemmas.  Presented through this perspective, the work challenges viewers to look afresh at their perplexing modern lives.  In some of my pieces, for example, I take commonly used phrases such as juggling time, burning the candle at both ends or pushing the envelope and depict them in literal images that create a lasting association between the words and their actual meaning.  Seeing the words we use to describe our lives interpreted through the naive eyes of a child prods us to more clearly recognize and confront many of the norms of behavior we unconsciously accept as routine in this modern era of rapid, sweeping social and technological change.
