Working in pen and ink on a portrait is like working on a trapeze without a net, but I love the challenge of creating an accurate likeness of each individual when I work on one of these commissions. I work on them from photographs I take and I take many, so that I can pick the one that best captures their character and personality.

Pen and ink gives the portraits a graphic, three dimensional characteristic that is powerful and graceful at the same time and the permanence of one of these drawings gives the person who commissions them a lasting record of each individual.
