Press Release

OKLAHOMA CITY (FEB 1, 2023) — Noted cloudscape painter David Holland was selected to create a large painting that will greet visitors in the grand entry hallway at the new Earlywine Golf Clubhouse set to open in the winter of 2023.  A selection committee for the OKC 1% for Art Program winnowed entries for the project down to three applicants that were screened through its pre-approved Artist Pool Program. The committee chose Holland’s conceptual design, recommended it to the Arts Commission who then recommended that the City contract with Holland for the painting. The City Council approved the contract in December of 2023.

Randy Marks, Arts Liaison for the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs said of the project: “Many Oklahoma City residents are familiar with David’s luminous work from seeing it at the Festival of the Arts for many years. His painting depicting a cloudscape above the golf course is the perfect choice for the location at the clubhouse entry. it will further elevate the experience of entering this beautiful new building.”

Visitors to the new Earlywine Clubhouse will enter through a 60 foot long vestibule entrance. At the end of the entryway will be Holland’s dramatic cloudscape painting, the sight of which will pull viewers in and welcome them to this new Oklahoma City landmark.

Mr. Holland will be creating a panoramic oil painting on canvas 12 feet wide by 5 feet tall depicting the majesty of Oklahoma’s dramatic skies from the vantage point of the Earlywine Golf Course. He did research into how Wilson Hurley, one of the muses for his cloudscape work, created the monumental canvases for the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum to decide on archival techniques to enhance the permanence of the installation. Work on the new large painting has already begun and will be completed in the autumn of 2023 at Hollan’s studio at 12th and Penn in OKC.
